You’re new to boarding school and trying to make new friends. Only the ones you want for friends, don’t want you. On top of that, you aren’t too crazy about your roommate. Those are the challenges that Lissa Mansfield faced when she moved into Spencer Academy.

Lissa’s time at Spencer isn’t all bad. She may not have found her place with the ‘in crowd,’ but she finds herself on the arm of the school’s number one catch, Callum. Her roommate, Gillian, turns out to be a true friend and great accountability partner. Things are really looking up for Lissa, until Callum wants more of her than she’s willing to give. Trying to find a compromise between pleasing him and her Christian beliefs puts a strain on her relationship with Gillian.

Shelley Adina does a great job at meshing pop-culture and real life situations with her characters. The problems Lissa faces are timeless. Ms. Adina takes a fresh approach to the topic of teen sexuality, giving girls of this century a healthy and Biblical worldview of what can happen when you open the door to sin. She dispels common myths many girls are led to believe. I felt very comfortable reading this novel and would have no problem encouraging my daughter to read it, too. In fact, moms will even enjoy this book as well.

Favs (without spoilers):
  • Character–Gillian, I could really relate to her
  • Part–When saves Lissa
Dislikes:
  • Character–Vanessa, that will be obvious
  • Part–None, it’s all good.
